About

Who's behind Yukon Fat Tire Fever?

Yukon Fat Tire Fever is organized by Geof Harries who's lived here for more than 25 years, and is a former President of Cycling Association of Yukon.

In 2023, that team won the Cycling Canada Event of the Year for hosting the Canadian Cross-Country Marathon Mountain Bike Championships.

To make Yukon Fat Tire Fever a reality, Geof is supported by volunteers just like himself. Our event is fueled by passion.

Our values and giving back

We want to inspire everyone to get on a bike and challenge themselves in a friendly, welcoming event setting. As such, we focus much less on racing and way more on fun and enjoyment.

As a method of showing our gratitude, we are committed to donating back to community programs that help support the trails we love.

A portion of every registration goes to Contagious Mountain Bike Club.

History

The name Fat Tire Fever comes from a mountain bike race held annually in Whitehorse during the late 1980s. The original Fat Tire Fever race was organized by Jack MacNeil and Bill Parry every August.

In fact, part of our 2024 event route was on the original Fat Tire Fever race course; a sweet high-five to this legacy.

The Yukon has a long and storied history of relay events, in which multiple people form a team and ride portions of a route. The biggest of them all is the KCIBR, now in its 26th year.

Previous mountain bike specific relay events included Mad to the Max and 24 Hours of Light in Whitehorse, and the Golden Loop Relay in Dawson.
